Went and hiked this trail this morning based on this nice report. The western part of the trail is rocky and goes through ponderosa pine forest. Boulder has a vibrant local restaurant and microbrewery scene, all located so close to the trails that you can easily find a place to dine and relax in between activities. I reached the Chautauqua trailhead around 10:30am, and it was already crowded. • A quick drive will get you to the Arapaho and Roosevelt National Forests located west of Boulder and offer some great campsites and more spectacular trails to explore. I’d do it at all hours of the day in all weather.

It has been years since I’ve been to Boulder. I had seen the trail on maps, but assumed that it was only for rock climbers. The trail is primarily used for hiking, running, rock climbing, and snowshoeing and is best used from April until October. Today, with perhaps the exception of the high-end climber, nearly every climber can find something nearby to satisfy their climbing desires. And part of the hike was not on any map when I lived in the city. NOT OKAY! Flatirons Vista South completes the south portion of the Flatirons Vista loop.
