"As a teacher, my favorite parts are all the things I learn. However, the temperatures vary by region in Spain, the northern and more mountainous parts fo the country get more snowfall and cooler temperatures, while the coastal and Mediterranean regions have hot and dry summers.
My favorite experience was the tour I booked independently where I visited the inside of the Sagrada Familia. You can also extend your vacation in the Iberian Peninsula and spend some time in Portugal and Morocco.
Having pre-ordered tickets at the activities saved much time and frustration. Were I to recommend a Colette tour to a friend, I would suggest they find one with a slower pace, both in terms of the changes in hotels and the speed of the walking tours. We'll take a traffic-free walking tour that includes Toledo's magnificent cathedral, the historic Tránsito Synagogue, and El Greco's The Burial of the Count of Orgaz in Santo Tomé Chapel.
Several were repeat Rick Steves travelers, which is beneficial because it helps me plan my next tour! We enjoyed it very much.

Our guide was so knowledgeable about every place we went. I was amazed by how much we were able to experience with a casual pace. This was more of a religious tour. Other restrictions may apply. We got to visit the Picasso a few days prior in Barcelona, so we already learned about some of his history. Great variety of cultural sites and local color!
I felt like I had stepped back into to the 1500s. Monica, our local guide, was so knowledgeable and passionate about the Basilica that she inspired us to take in every soaring spire, stained glass window, and ornate statue inside and out. Hotel Colon was excellent--definitely a high point especially since we extended for 3 days in Barcelona. Did everything well, from travel accommodations, to first class hotels, to tour destinations, and excellent tour guides.
The local and museum guides were also great.
Unfortunately I did not get to say goodbye in person since my kids woke me up during the middle of the night telling me to get home STAT. Photos don't capture the experience of being in the space, and it was well worth the effort. Our Tour Manager Monica Rey was excellent as well as local guides and motor coach driver.
He kept us on schedule so we had time to enjoy each place. Embark on an Iberian adventure as you take in medieval architecture, idyllic landscapes and delectable cuisine. The people in the Sydney office were fantastic, the arrival of the information package I thought was rather late and the US emphasis in all the written advice was annoying.

We also got conflicting information from Collette for Madrid about whether the group would tour Royal Palace or the Prado - the answer kept changing!

The extra excursions were definitely priced too high for the value we received.would have liked rooms with a small terrace or balcony. Spain is a beautiful country. Amazing experience with the guide, tours, guides in each city, hotels and food. We did not have access to the interiors of the two most visited places in Spain, the Alhambra and La Sagrada Familia.

Although my wife and I could handle it, many on our tour could not and I do not believe this was clearly indicated before the trip. Get messy with the locals at La Tomatina, Spain's annual tomato-throwing festival held in Buñol at the end of August. I can't say enough good things about our tour. My husband and I used Collette when we went to Israel and we could not have had a better trip.

I had to pay $135.00 plus taxes extra for a trip that was over $5000.00. The CPM date, which is still December 11, 1996, is now not even 5 percent likely to occur. At two dinners which were included on the tour we didn't even have time to finish dessert and coffee as the tour guide announced we had to leave. I throughly enjoyed this tour.

The tour gave us the opportunity to see the cities with very knowledgeable and engaging guides, while allowing us time to explore on our own. The tour was well organized and covered the places we wanted to see.
He prepped us with historical context during our break at the cafe, then went deeper in the gallery outside the Guernica. I was pleasantly surprised to find that both cities were pedestrian friendly with many streets designed for walking with no or little traffic. The pace was busy but not too hectic, the insight provided by our guide was phenomenal and really added to the experience. We spent additional time before the tour in Barcelona which allowed us to do a private one day wine tour in the Penedes region. Our tour was excellent. Most places were crowded with tourists, although May is considered pre-season; Barcelona was particularly overrun because several cruise ships were in port.
