Ostriv is playable and fun already and is still very early in development. New comments cannot be posted and votes cannot be cast. I loved Banished!
I wouldn't at all mind some kind of permanent trade deals with the other towns where we could contract for a certain amount of, say, salt each year in exchange for a certain amount of lime or sunflower oil or whatever. Ie: schools, government, housing upgrades/technology. I suggest you look on you tube and watch videos for both and see what you like. Just like what happened to Banished, 'Ostriv' gameplay is being used to advertise 'War and Order' I have noticed a lot of stuff on this sub about mobile game advertisers using Banished gameplay for their ads. share. Lots of people wanted it to be more than it was designed to be. I think I already answered this question here. I got really, really tired of sending expeditions to go and find new stuff to use on the farms, orchards and animals...it was tedious. The closest game on Steam is almost identical to Banished (in fact, it has a swathe of negative reviews because the developers were accused of copying), but it's more 3D and doesn't use the grid system: Life is Feudal: Forest Village - so you aren't the only one who wanted a game along these lines. But by that same train if thought every first person shooter is a Doom clone and every real time strategy game is a Dune II clone. Banished was limited, Ostriv has more possibilities! Remember, there's one VERY important thing: your foresters should have nothing to do so they have a free time. Even in alpha, Ostriv has surpassed Banished's circus act AI and implemented a working currency-based economy (complete with basic welfare system) and a farming system that's not only sensible and period-appropriate but has a fairly well implemented crop rotation system which is something the Banished developer struggled with for a long time before eventually throwing in the towel because he couldn't make it work. So far the attention to detail in the development cycle is higher than I found with Banished. Press J to jump to the feed. How would you compare Banished to Forest Village? Any Banished fans around here? They look quite similar to me. Ostriv is a city-building game that puts you in a role of a governor of an 18th century town to challenge your creative skills and management abilities. It's still in development but it's great to see the new changes and features as they get implemented in the game. Keep in mind Banished is 2015. share.
