One of my favorites.
*** means I liked it, but I didn't like it.
eBook includes PDF, ePub and Kindle version. A selfish, self-indulgent character who rules the family home with a rod of unforgiving iron. It had a well-developped plot, lots of social comentary, imagery, and humour. now I'm going to hide out in my blanket fort for a day or two. It is a dark story . Many thanks.

There is not necessarily a central character, but you could say everything revolves around James Brodie, a hatter who is also an abusive father/husband/son. He drew the figure of Jams Brodie vividly, who is a man filled with greed , lust, & vanity.
Hatters Castle is one of my best ever books! this is the first one which worked! This was a very good book.
Start by marking “Hatter's Castle” as Want to Read: Error rating book. It can be depressing to read due to Brodie's cruelty, especially to his family.
Welcome back.
Public Resource by Victor Gollancz Ltd. It’s rare that a debut novel gets the kind of love and attention that Yaa Gyasi’s Homegoing, which spanned centuries and continents, received. just perfect, James Brodie is a desperately proud man, not only of his hatter’s business but of his tasteless pile of a house, built purely to impress. He’ll go to any lengths to protect his social standing in the town, but not only is he delusional, he’s also a bully. It is basically telling in every page ", excellent novel, one of the best ever written. OMG, after reading many sentimental romance novels that brought me to tears, fantasy/dystopian novels what wowed me with their endless actions, finally there is a book that really truly angered me!

We found that most of the books shared similar themes of the crippling effects of poverty, social injustice, corruption, hypocrisy, attitudes to women and their 'morals', and an almost Dickensian contrast between rich and poor. Published I wouldn't have read this book but my mum asked me to get hold of a copy of another of Cronin's books for her from Amazon; a few days later I was waiting at a railway station in the waiting room when I looked in the swap and borrow library and came across Hatter's Castle. My favorite book of all times!
To be honest, at some points it feels exaggerated, as no normal person would be so ridiculously toxic, I mean even toxic people have their own "other toxic people" circles in which they enjoy spending time with ech other and doing God knows what. This was the first grown up book I read in my early teens and I have been a Cronin Fan ever since. I have read it 6 months ago and i felt really delighted by the book. Cronin, including 'The Green Years', 'The Citadel', 'The Crusader's Tomb', 'Gracie Lindsay', 'The Minstrel Boy', and 'Beyond This Place'. Unfortunately, everything in this novel seems governed by an unmerciful force that only entails disaster.
It's astonishing how much patience the people must have to listen about his noble name and the great lineage he comes from. Not to mention his family who are victims and prisoners of this so called perfectionist.The. His egomania is also his nemesis. And the feeling of being angered, compared to other feelings I've got from reading books up to now, is still awesome as hell! Cronin, is nothing short of a narrative masterpiece, albeit one cursed by the tragedy of its characters. It's astonishing how much patience the people must have to listen about his noble name and the great lineage he comes from. Not to mention his family who are victims and prisoners of this so called perfectionist. The biggest tragedy is that this, also, happens today, where people are full of themselves,as if they are the center of the universe, without concerns how much their words, behavior and deeds affects others around them, which leads to a catastrophic conclusion. With each page,my head was boiling to the extent, where I was hoping someone would ambush that man and deprive him the use of his limbs (on which he calls upon repeatedly) and shatter his pride.Of,course, the end was something different, but effective enough.Should you wish to read this book,I recommend to arm yourselves with patience and good thoughts, because someone might find some aspect of his life similar to this. The next week I'll be reviewing some epic poems from classic Greek and Roman literature, which left a great impact on me.Until that,I wish you all a pleasant weekend and plenty of rest for the upcoming challenges that awaits you.Of course,if you're on a vacation, then it's plenty of Sun,sea, good food and fun for all. Inhumanity is taken to extremes, to grotesque peaks of brutality, for the sole purpose of maintaining appearances and ascending on the social scale. A little bit of Dickens's tale-telling gift, a little more of Hardy's inexorable sense of destiny, this book will stick to my mind for quite a while now. A selfish, self-indulgent character who rules the family home with a rod of unforgiving iron. I read this book a looong time ago, so although the storyline is now a bit fuzzy in my head, I still remember the heart wrenching, tear jerker scenes in it. They come one after the other, relentlessly, but as you never expect them to happen, the sorrow in them is always ever so raw. This is the kind of book that makes you say "Uff... why in earth did he do that?". You will feel a roller-coaster of emotions, at times wishing you could enter that fictional world and change something for the better. Her... Hatter's Castle (1931) is the first novel of author A. J.
