I think a lot of “tasting”, whether it be wine, whisky, or beer is intimidating for people. Given that most of what I wanted was not available via their site (higher end, top shelf bottles) nor are their prices among the lowest- can’t see the value in using Flaviar.
Flaviar customer service is terrible! Just joined and my biggest complaint besides those you mentioned is the lack of sorting or filtering functions in the bottle store. It’s a farce!
I wish they offered 1.75ml bottles. If you ordered a box at full price (not one of your quarterly free boxes) it would cost $40. I NEVER received my very first shipment and two weeks later still getting the run around. As it stands, we’re stuck with naught but the LCBO’s criminally overpriced selections. Is it worth the money? It offers other membership perks, as well, including access to exclusive drinks and private events. Prices may vary by state! I tried one that features three Japanese whiskeys, and am about to receive an introduction to Scotch (which I've never been a huge fan of, but want to give it another chance. You are charged $300/yr for the privilege of buying $180 of liquor. Shipping was fast: They estimated 3-7 work days for my shipment based on my location in California, and the box arrived in 3. I wish this was available in Ontario, Canada.
I didn’t have any issues with Flaviar’s shipping, myself, but that doesn’t mean they can’t happen. Flaviar is a premium spirits club that sends new (and sometimes rare!) They would be far more likely to stick to their initial delivery times if they did not immediately charge my credit card. Meanwhile, the full-size bottles come from popular brands like Johnnie Walker and Glenlivet, as well as smaller distilleries like Journeyman. We had a package that of course required a signature, come to find out our package was left in our mailbox and it was slit opened and 2/3 of the tasting bottles were gone. Should the range of the selections of the quarterly bottle not be broad enough for my taste, I am hoping to be able to easily substitute a bottle of my choice and pay the difference. If you know someone who's into tasting rather than just drinking, then this makes a great gift too. The site was laid out well, making it easy to browse all the different spirits and read through "specs," tasting notes, and reviews. Always impeccable service. It was interesting to read about the history of the maker, the space, and specific bourbon they sent. In one year I was able to experience 13 whiskeys that I other wise never would have had the opportunity to try. The key takeaway, if you are familiar with the service and don’t want to read the whole review, is that for slightly more money than the old club, you get a 3-vial tasting box of your choice plus a full-sized (750ml in the US, 700ml elsewhere) bottle of your choice every quarter, aka every 3 months. I had started a quarterly membership with Flaviar a while back, maintained it for close to 2 years until I felt I could not truly afford their newest price increase (Covid19 induced - I didn't hold that against them though...simply business as usual, companies increase their pricing all of the time). Or don’t, your call. Flaviar says that their samples are sized so that they can easily be enjoyed by three people interested in tasting. Customers who cancel their subscription services in writing, by email or mail, within the first 14 days of their service can receive a full refund of their fees. Awesome. I do wish they would go down to at least $40, or up the perks on being at $60… I am sticking with it for now, but not sure how much longer. I'm not so much interested in brandy, rum, or other spirits right now. That's nothing but BS. Very happy with the quick response and resolving my question! Flaviar has made a major overhaul to their membership model, and my old review is now woefully out of date. Though I did this by myself, I could see the tasting process being an excellent social activity to do with a friend or family member. You get to pick your bottle based on your preferences. I don't know if this is an intentional marketing move, or if its to make sure there's enough product to go around, but just be aware that if you sign up today it may be a bit until you actually get your first shipment.
Paper coasters in the box contain notes on each sample as well as a sticker with the “real” label that you can stick onto the vial after you do a blind tasting, if that’s your bag. Look forward to rejoining again in the future! $95 for a single bottle and three 1.5 oz pours of whiskey sounds a little expensive, but the bottle included in your membership costs around $45-$55 retail. We frequently receive products free of charge from manufacturers to test. Can you choose what type of spirit that you prefer? I just want to drink, so I don't really pay attention to that stuff, but it might be fun if you have the time an interest. Competitive prices. Flaviar completely lives up to its tagline. Super helpful! The closest Total Wine to me is 90 minutes away, so no-deal there for me LOL. Plus, if you don't have access to a big bottle store in your area, you may have no other choice. As I mentioned in a previous comment, I don’t consider Flaviar a resource for low-priced whisky. I contacted customer support regarding a missing item in my shipment, and received a response within an hour or so. For my “Welcome Box”, received three craft bourbons. After exhausting my remedies finally told them I wanted refund and to cancel. I'm not a huge spirits guy, but I do like to try things from time to time, and this is the perfect pace for me.

I think that's a pretty good deal considering you're getting it delivered to you house. We strive to make all reviews honest (albeit opinionated! In short, the Flaviar spirits club is not a scam, and it's definitely legit! I’ll check with my Flaviar rep on that. I don't think I'm a spirits connoisseur just yet, but I thought the "Flavor Spirals" were spot-on and not too difficult to pair up with the corresponding samples. I make my own beer, kombucha, and am a huge fan of grilling as well as sous vide.
