That's why I wrote that a good chunk could have been snipped out of Act 1. Very uneven, low budget effort.
After a long stroll from the high school basketball game to their small Arizona town’s humble business district, both teens man their posts — he spinning pre-rock 45s, her connecting callers.A sudden phenomenon shakes up the evening.
Blood Simple was another exercise in show-off, formal indie filmmaking. QUIZ Marvel : à quels films appartiennent ces créatures ? by: Janelle Brassard. Coming Soon - Search. You sort of can't say it without squirming a little. Thank you for this film! I got the name of the town, clever. The conversation with Billy was really spooky and paranoia-inducing, even though Billy is never seen in the film. What's effective, even brilliant, is the film's approach to audio. Print this column
To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Callbacks to Welles and Lynch and Hawks and Altman come fast and furious, and are sure to ingratiate the film to the critics (who, predictably enough, have responded), but the collective effect is too much and yet too little. Travelling or based outside United States?
See the information below to see how this movie performed in the Box Office results reported by studios. Much too self conscious, from the sound design to the long takes to the (frequently stunning) camerawork, everything seemed designed to call attention to itself, rather than to reinforce the telling of a story. Nor does the framing device, an homage to the Twilight Zone.

: Our records date back to November 2007, and include the movies that appeared in the Top 10 Movies report each weekend since. I seriously had to add that...probably my favorite scene in the movie, that and the ending. Great movie, so great I'm about to watch it again, lol...this is Sci-Fi done right!!! As the film begins, a Rod Serling imitator provides a “Twilight Zone”-style opening narration as the camera zooms in on a black-and-white television. There are very few movies I would call flawless.

This was a well-told story.
Amazon Prime Video : les films et séries à voir en juillet 2020 : Hanna, Malcolm, trilogie Divergente... Vin Diesel et Riddick : tout sur l'univers de Pitch Black. (Also in Slamdance Film Festival.) The continuous shot that started from outside the basketball game, then through it, then up into the seats, and out the window had me stumped. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon.
These comes across as indulgences, rather than necessities. The attention not only to sound itself (as communication, as score), but to the process of capturing and re-creating sound makes this production come across as a radio play presented in a unique way, as a movie. GREAT JOB, FILMMAKERS!
The Media was raving about this which is why you should never trust the Media.
The tail-finned cars, the saddle shoes, the cat-eye glasses, the Sputnik references, place us in time, but the period is not belabored and/or condescended to. At the Box Office: ‘The Vast of Night’ Community. Select the department you want to search in.
Overall great spooky movie. Sign in to see videos available to you. No Box Office reports were found for this movie.
Eager to see what the filmmakers come up with next. Due to an error in the data that is supplied to us, the "Box Office Change" value for the subsequent week is cleared when that occurs. Watched this last night, VERY creative and well done.
Some nice period details, bogged down by long expository scenes that reinforced a familiar story.
The exposition is not without merit, as it establishes small-town atmosphere; but does not advance the story. I wondered how they pulled it off.
Tape recorders, microphones, mid-20th-Century telephony (analog phones, a switchboard), a radio station, all serve characters who speak to and record each other through these devices. This isn’t an instructive science fiction fable about our own lives but rather an intimate study of character and place. It is not ironic in tone, and it doesn't have quotation marks around the genre. This film is marvelous, very much in the spirit of The Twilight Zone and Ray Bradbury. "The Vast of Night" explores its simple, familiar sci-fi premise in stunningly fresh execution.

The strange lumpiness of the title continues to be offputting, though.
I loved Pontypool, X-Files, Stranger Things, etc.
Qui sommes-nous | The Vast of Night is one of the best films of 2020. In the twilight of the 1950s, on one fateful night in New Mexico, a young switchboard operator Fay (Sierra McCormick) and charismatic radio DJ Everett (Jake Horowitz) discover a strange audio frequency that could change their small town and the future forever.
(My favorite: The radio station in town bears the call sign WOTW, as in “War of the Worlds.”) But “The Vast of Night,” a film festival favorite from rookie director Andrew Pattinson, is very much a thesis statement for a certain type of nostalgic, sepia-toned science fiction. This isn’t the new weird; it’s a return to the classic weird. The principles of this dream within a dream are Everett (Jake Horowitz), a demonstratively cool radio DJ, and Fay (Sierra McCormick), a high schooler and part-time switchboard operator. I got the name of the town, clever. Sadly it won't have a lot of competition, but even if the year was normal, it would still stand out.
