The plot doesn’t really sway much from here; the boss’ (of the factory) idealistic son, Amlis Vess, comes down to earth to judge things, and Isserley experiences love and hate towards him personally — this event, alone, necessary but not sufficient for the setting off of a chain of events leading to the end of the story and what increasingly looks like inevitable demise. Summary Isserley is an alien whose assignment on earth is to abduct male (preferably muscular and burly) hitchikers for their processing, in a subterranean area under a barn in Scotland where she and her fellow aliens are based, as farmed animals that are castrated, made mute by tongue-amputation and fattened up in pens like calves for their veal.

The main character is Jimmy Randolph Youngblood, the child of a prostitute named Ava from deep Texas and notorious Pancho Villa's legendary “enforcer,” a soldier named Rodolfo Fierro. The disfigured man is the alien’s last victim. My hunch is that some whites will be repulsed by the anger and bluntness. The woman understands him and tells him not to feel bad.
